CUAA Prize for Best Session at AAA 2026 Organized and Presented by PhD Students and/or Recent PhDs
Deadline for Submissions: Wednesday, September 30, 2026
$1,000 for travel support to be shared among panelists
CUAA is pleased to announce a prize for the best panel organized and presented by Ph.D. students or recent Ph.D. graduates at the November 2026 Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association in St. Louis. This prize (and the amount of $1,000) will be awarded at the CUAA Business Meeting at the AAA Annual Meeting in St. Louis.
Guidelines to be eligible for this award:
- The panelists and panel-organizers must all either be current PhD students or have received their PhD degrees within 5 years prior to when the panel was accepted and not currently hold a full-time tenure-track position (although a discussant or chair may hold such a position).
- The panel must have been submitted by the May 6, 2026, deadline for the General Call for submissions to the AAA Program and be accepted for inclusion on the CUAA Program in St. Louis.
- If the organizers are interested in being considered for this award, they should write to Omnia Khalil, CUAA 2026 Best Panel Prize Committee/Team Chair, at okhalil@ccny.cuny.edu and submit their session and paper abstracts, notification of their acceptance on the AAA Program as a CUAA session, and a cover letter indicating that they wish to be considered for the competition, no later than October 1, 2026.
- The $1,000 prize money is intended to (partially) offset the costs of personally traveling to and attending the AAA in St. Louis. The winning panelists who are PhD. students or recent PhDs will receive the $1,000 prize split evenly among them. Any of the winning panelists who are not members of CUAA will be awarded one-year memberships in CUAA. Tenure-track or tenured participants such as discussants are not eligible for the cash prize, but they will be celebrated by being listed as participants in the winning panel.
- All materials required must be submitted via email to Professor Khalil by September 30, 2026.
